Salt Point State Park Campgrounds

Woodside Campground

Woodside Campground is located east of Highway 1 and features 79 campsites in two loops. Campsites have fire rings, picnic tables and food lockers. Restrooms with flush toilets are placed around the campground, but there are no showers. None of the sites have hook-ups.

Previous campers at Salt Point State Park have noted that the fog rolling in at night can leave anything left out damp. Some campers felt that the lower loop had more privacy than the upper loop. Everyone mentioned how friendly and helpful the rangers were.

Gerstle Cove Campground

Salt Point State Park's Gerstle Cove Campground is more exposed than Woodside Campground, with less shade, but Gerstle is closer to the cove. Previous campers have noted that sites 21 through 27 are near the highway and pick up a little traffic noise. Be sure to keep food items put away as the jays will peck away at anything left unattended. Gerstle Cove Campground has 30 campsites arranged in a single loop. Facilities are similar to Woodside Campground.

Ocean Safety

California State Parks and Recreation cautions that "large surf, cold water temperatures, backwash, sudden drop-offs, pounding shorebreak, and dangerous rip currents can turn what seem like safe activities such as playing near the surf line, wading, or climbing on rock outcroppings, deadly."
